Check&Mate win the 13th Finale of the Young Enterprise Project
The final of the 13th edition of the Young Enterprise Project (YEP), took place on Thursday April 25, 2024 at the Melusina. Of the initial 28 teams, five were selected to take part in the final.
A total of 114 students from 11 different BTS (Brevet de Technicien Supérieur), from 7 high schools (Atert – Lycée Redange, Ecole de Commerce et de Gestion, Ecole d’Hôtellerie et de Tourisme du Luxembourg, Lycée Technique d’Ettelbruck, Lycée Guillaume Kroll, Lycée des Arts et Métiers and Lycée Nic Biever Dudelange), took part in the Young Enterprise Project 2023-2024.
YEP is a higher education programme in which students work as a team to create a business plan around an innovative product or service idea. Students study the feasibility of the project using tools such as the empathy map and the Business Model Canvas, and develop a prototype and a commercial video.

Each team is accompanied by a coach from the professional world. One of the strengths of the programme is that it creates an exchange between students and experts in their field. In addition to working on a business plan, students also gain important insights into the professional world.
Several training courses were held this year, to support the teams in the initial phase of their project:

- resilience by RubixPotential
- website design by ECOM LUX,
- financial management by Capital Group
- video creation by Havé Films and
- Pitch Training sessions by Philip Grother, presentation expert/coach.
Dominique Moeremans (ECG), Imene Guidoumi and Alyssa Caroff (Accenture), Grégoire Seron (Capital Group), Thibaut Ciccone (nyuko), Bastien Berg (Luxembourg City Incubator), Philippe Linster (House of Startups), and Sam Paulus and Jérémy Del Rosario (Microlux) formed the jury for the 2023-2024 edition. Throughout the year they accompanied and evaluated the participating teams.
For the final held at the Melusina, each group had 4 minutes to present their project to the jury.
3 équipes gagnantes
The “Check & Mate” team, consisting of Channel Felt, Martin Biever, and Morgane Santos Coelho, students in the BTS “Hospitality Management” programme at the Ecole d’Hôtellerie et de Tourisme du Luxembourg, claimed the first prize.
The aim of their project is to offer a freemium application that enables students to find a job and help HORESCA players to find the workforce they need. Students will be able to filter job advertisments according to their availability, and employers will be able to filter student profiles according to their needs. These filters can be varied according to working days and working hours, as well as including terms and conditions that employers can request.

The “CSpotRentals” team, comprised of Julie Santoes, Mandy Melon, Ruben Andrade, and Sam Lafleur from Lycée Nic Biever Dudelange’s BTS “Digital Content” program, earned the second prize.
CSpotRentals’ mission is to create links between owners and customers with their rental platform. On this platform, owners – be they companies, local authorities or private individuals – can make their studios available, or any other exclusive premises that might be of interest to their clientele. This clientele onsists of photographers, videographers or musicians looking for a place to create their content.

Third place went to the “BrainOn” team. A group made up of Diogo Correira Martins, Max Santos Veloso, Thomas Basteiros Abrantes and Tiago Neves Pacheco, 4 BTS “Cloud Computing” students from the Lycée Guillaume Kroll.
Their aim is to develop a user-friendly web platform designed to help people with limited computer skills. The platform will offer a straightforward interface enabling users to upgrade their personal computers effortlessly, or explore options for acquiring pre-configured or customizable computing solutions.

Alumni Leadership Award
Martin Biever (Check & Mate team) received the Alumni Leadership Award from the Alumni Committee. This award is given to students who have demonstrated leadership qualities and the ability to lead their team.
