The 14th edition of Engineering Trainee Days (ETD) enabled 82 students to observe and accompany engineers and scientists for two days during their All Saints’ vacations. ETD is organized by the a.s.b.l. Jonk Entrepreneuren Luxembourg, in collaboration with the Association Ingénieurs et Scientifiques du Luxembourg and the Ministère de l’Éducation nationale, de l’Enfance et de la Jeunesse, and took place during the week of October 26 to October 31, 2024. This year, a total of 28 companies and research institutions took part.

Gilbert Engel, a member of the Board of Directors since the early days of Jonk Entrepreneuren Luxembourg, says: “The Engineering Trainee Days (ETD) are a unique experience, and these two days are a great opportunity for young people. It’s also very rewarding and enriching for the engineers to be able to share their profession”.

The closing event, which took place on November 28, 2024, brought together students, parents, high school representatives and companies/institutions that had hosted students. The event was an opportunity to (re)establish contacts between students and participating companies, but above all to attend the round table discussion on the theme: “The future of engineering: trends, challenges and innovations in all sectors”. During the round table, speakers included: Hriday Bavle, Automation Researcher at SNT, Philippe Osch, CEO of HITEC Luxembourg, René Michél València, Satellite Expert Engineer and Program Manager at Bradford Space, and Anne-Marie Solvi, CEO of Paul Wurth Geprolux, explored new and emerging opportunities in engineering, focusing on the trends, challenges and innovations shaping the future of the sector.

Discussions also highlighted the importance of adopting an open and inquisitive approach, and encouraged participants to take advantage of internships to diversify their skills and explore market opportunities, realities and requirements.
