On Tuesday, 9 December 2025, more than 300 students gathered to participate in the ‘Luxembourg Practice Enterprise Trade Fair 2025’, organised by the non-profit organisation Jonk Entrepreneuren Luxembourg. A total of 23 companies were present at the Geesseknäppchen Forum, including 20 national companies from 13 secondary schools in Luxembourg and three international companies from Belgium.

The concept of the Practice Enterprise (PE) has been around since the 1950s and is implemented in many countries across various sectors (school, vocational training, professional reintegration, etc.). In Luxembourg, the concept was introduced into the school curriculum as a compulsory subject in 2006. Since then, Practice Enterprises has been a subject taught in general secondary education – vocational training programme – administrative and commercial division.

Understanding how a business works through a mock trade fair

Practice Enterprises are fictitious companies integrated into a global network that constitutes a real parallel market, enabling them to engage in commercial activities with each other in a way that closely simulates the real market.

The aim of the practice Enterprise is to put into practice the theoretical knowledge acquired in other courses and to gain an overview of how a company operates. This promotes interaction between different departments and with external bodies. It is therefore through commercial practice that the practice enterprise aims to prepare young people for the world of work in the best possible way.

The Luxembourg Practice Enterprise Trade Fair is held once a year and allows PEs to meet and form business alliances. A competition is also held, with the following many prizes up for grabs: ‘Best Brochure & Catalogue’, ‘Best Stand’, ‘Best Customer Service and Business Practices’, ‘Best Presentation’ and finally ‘Best Training Firm at the 2025 Fair’, as well as two optional prizes, namely the ‘Innovation Prize’ and the ‘Sustainable Development Prize’.
