16th Job Shadow Day draws to a successful close
Immersion in the professional world and an inspiring round table discussion
The 16th edition of the Job Shadow Day (JSD) programme was held from 31 March to 4 April 2025, and concluded on Friday 25 April with a round table devoted to the theme of first professional experience.
Organised in partnership with FEDIL – The Voice of Luxembourg’s Industry, the Chambre des Métiers, the Chambre de Commerce and the Ministère de l’Éducation nationale, de l’Enfance et de la Jeunesse, each year Job Shadow Day gives students the opportunity to immerse themselves in the day-to-day life of company directors.
This year, 176 students from 25 secondary schools had the opportunity to accompany company directors from 93 companies during a full day of observation.

Much more than a simple company visit, JSD offers young people a real immersion in professional reality, enabling them to follow a leader as they carry out their day-to-day responsibilities.
Sven Baltes, Director of Jonk Entrepreneuren Luxembourg, explains: “For students, it’s a valuable experience that helps them to better understand the realities of the workplace, to refine their career choices and to develop their spirit of initiative. For companies, it’s an opportunity to actively contribute to the training of tomorrow’s talent, to share their passion, and to inspire a new generation of leaders. Together, we are building a bridge between school and the business world”.
Through this experience, students learn first-hand about the demands, challenges and skills required to run a business, while developing their understanding of possible career paths.
The closing round table on 25 April, entitled ‘My First Job Experience: The Good, The Bad, The Real’, brought together
a number of professionals to share their first experiences of the job market and offer invaluable advice to young people making the transition to working life. Moderated by Myriam Baustert of Jonk Entrepreneuren Luxembourg, the panel included Olivier Toth, CEO of Rockhal, Serena Russo, Senior Auditor at State Street, and Raymond Adam, Research & Development Manager at Michelman.
The aim of the round table was to help young people prepare for the transition from studies to working life by giving them real-life accounts of the realities of their first job. The speakers shared what surprised them when they first started out, the lessons they learned, and the steps that have shaped their career paths.
Olivier Toth, now head of Rockhal, began his career as a lawyer. Although he has since radically changed sectors, he explains that this initial experience continues to be useful to him on a daily basis. Serena Russo, originally from Italy, began her career in Poland. Her career took her through several countries before settling in Luxembourg. She stressed the importance of young people being open-minded and seizing opportunities as soon as they arise. Raymond Adam, for his part, stressed the need to adopt a proactive attitude right from the start of one’s career. He encouraged young people to draw up a personal and professional development plan so that they can make informed choices and progress in their careers.
The round table offered a candid and inspiring insight into the realities of the job market, with concrete advice to help young people build their professional future.

The event concluded with the presentation of participation certificates to the students before the traditional group photo.
