Immersion in the world of work

The 17th edition of the Job Shadow Day (JSD) programme took place from 23 March to 27 March 2026, and concluded on Thursday 16 April with a closing event featuring a round-table discussion on career guidance and choices, with various personal accounts.

Organised in partnership with FEDIL – The Voice of Luxembourg’s Industry, the Chamber of Trades, the Chamber of Commerce and the Ministry of National Education, Children and Youth, Job Shadow Day enables pupils each year to immerse themselves in the day-to-day lives of business leaders or team managers.

This year, 158 pupils from 23 secondary schools had the opportunity to shadow business leaders from 75 companies during a full day of observation. Much more than a simple visit, Job Shadow Day offers young people a genuine insight into the world of work, allowing them to follow a leader as they carry out their day-to-day responsibilities.

Panel: ‘Choosing Your Path: Real Talk from Professionals’

The round-table discussion on 16 April, entitled ‘Choosing Your Path: Real Talk from Professionals’, brought together several professionals who came to share their early experiences in the job market and offer valuable advice to young people making the transition into working life.

Moderated by Myriam Baustert of Jonk Entrepreneuren Luxembourg, this enriching discussion featured Charel Theisen (Strategy & Consulting – Tech Advisory at Accenture), Clément Wampach (Managing Director at TK Elevator Luxembourg), Tahra Narr (Programme Coordinator at Jonk Entrepreneuren Luxembourg) and Christian Happ (Director at Yolande a.s.b.l., Elisabeth Handicap).

The round table provided an opportunity to share experiences and offer highly inspiring advice. Charel Theisen, in particular, described the start of a career as an intense learning phase, where one is constantly learning and where the support of the team plays a vital role. Christian Happ emphasised the importance of finding meaning in one’s work and reminded the audience that doubts are an integral part of any career. Clément Wampach emphasised the importance of attitude, highlighting his ability to turn every challenge into an opportunity, with the mantra: ‘When you have the passion, things go right.’ Finally, Tahra Narr shared a more recent perspective, explaining that mistakes and fluctuations in motivation are a natural part of one’s professional journey.

This round-table discussion provided students with honest accounts of career choices, doubts and challenges, as well as practical advice to help them shape their professional future.
