Eco-friendly, creative and delicious: discover this year's winning projects!

On Tuesday 4 July, the Junior Project Awards (JPA) 2023 were held at the Chambre des Métiers. The aim of the event is to highlight and reward the best projects undertaken by high school students during the 2022-2023 academic year.

An inclusive initiative for two age groups!

Two competitions were organised: one for the lower cycle (pupils in classes 7 to 5) and one for the upper cycle (pupils in classes 4 to 2).

Out of a total of 30 teams registered, the jury finally selected 16 finalists: 4 from the lower cycle (ALR & LAML) and 12 from the upper cycle (ECG, ESL I, LAML, LNB & LTL).

The criteria and conditions were the same for both age categories.

Managing a project professionally

The aim of this programme is to encourage project management, develop students’ autonomy and instil a taste for challenge. Given that the ability to plan and manage a project effectively is now one of the key skills required in all professional environments, this programme gives young people the opportunity to develop soft skills that are in demand in the world of work. To take part, students had to write and submit a full report on their project and present it in front of an audience and a panel of judges.

6 winning teams

To determine the winners, the jury of experts used a number of evaluation criteria, including creativity, originality and complexity of the project, stage presentation and cooperation and communication.

For the upper cycle:

First prize went to the ‘Well being week‘ team from the European School I. With the support of their student committee, Fay Ootes and Georg Poensgen organised a week focusing on the mental health of students. They organised lectures by psychologists and various workshops. The jury praised the excellent execution and organisation of their project, as well as their impeccable dossier.

For winning first place, the two students will be able to attend a concert of their choice at den Atelier.

Second prize went to the “Sneak Clean” team from the Ecole de Commerce et de Gestion. Lena Duarte, Luciana Perez, Océane Laby, Mirjam Jiogo, Lucas Serge Ndiaye and Christiano Garcias came up with the idea of launching a shoe-cleaning service. Their customers could either opt for a simple cleaning, or choose to have their shoes cleaned and creases removed. The jury really appreciated this entrepreneurial project and complimented the project management as well as the excellent oral presentation.

This team will be celebrating its victory with a session of Escape Game.

Third prize went to the “Respekt” team from the Lycée Aline Mayrisch. Aiko Brandenburger, Alyssa Ventura, Caty Coimbra Rodrigues, Emma Fairbarns, Juliette Gangschow, Lara Pedrosa, Mory Luka, Manolie Clerbaut, Nora Krettels, Sam Elsey and Toni Salomon noticed the lack of respect shown towards cleaning staff by some pupils, and wanted to raise awareness of the problem by launching an information campaign. The campaign included a video, posters and information workshops to raise awareness among students at their school. The jury applauded the team for their initiative and the various solutions they proposed in their information campaign.

The young people were rewarded with a Kinepolis gift voucher.

In the junior cycle, it was the “SunUpcycling Tracker” project by Léo Ensch from the Lycée Aline Mayrisch that convinced and impressed the jury. Using various upcycled materials, Léo built a solar tracker. The tracker is in fact a solar panel that turns towards the sun by means of a mechanism. He was able to use this solar panel, which produces green electricity, more efficiently than a conventional solar panel.

He wins two tickets for Le’h Adventures.

This year, the jury also awarded not one, but two Coup de Coeur prizes. They were awarded to two literary projects: Kassandra Tagheu Chakam with her project “Les 4 saisons dans la bouche” and Ema Simon with her project “Une panne de courant…et maintenant?“.

Both students at the Lycée Aline Mayrisch, Kassandra designed and wrote a book of 19 recipes sorted by season, while Ema wrote a children’s book illustrated with drawings by children in nursery classes.

The two students will be able to celebrate their unexpected victory with a Kinepolis ticket each.
